STACKING LAB · PRACTICE GUIDE
Downstacking practice
Downstacking means working your way down through an existing stack. Here you start with twelve gray garbage rows and try to clear them all, using as few pieces as you can while keeping the route downward open.
Look below the first hole
The opening garbage has gaps that move between columns. Filling the top gap is only one part of the problem: after that line disappears, the next gap may be somewhere else. Look for placements that expose the next useful route without burying it under new blocks.
Singles, doubles, triples and Tetrises are all allowed from the start. You do not need to wait for an I piece when a smaller clear opens a better path.
A focused digging drill
- Locate the accessible gap. Trace where the active piece can reach and which blocks are covering the rows below it.
- Compare a clear with a setup. If you cannot clear immediately, choose a placement that helps the next visible piece reach the garbage rather than simply raising the surface.
- Inspect the coach’s route. Watch how it uses ordinary clears and hold. Its objective is removing garbage, so a flashy setup may be less useful than a small clear.
- Review the result. When the gray garbage is gone, the exercise ends with a success screen. Compare the pieces used and review any new holes you created on the way down.
Adjust the pressure
The mode includes incoming garbage with an adjustable interval. A slower interval gives you more time to read the field; a faster interval puts more pressure on keeping access open. Start slowly enough that you can explain your placements before trying to improve speed.
Extra blocks you place are not the same as gray garbage. The success condition is clearing every gray garbage row; the whole board does not have to be empty. Empty-board practice belongs in Perfect Clear Freeplay.
Questions
Should I save every I piece for a Tetris?
No. Consider whether using it now opens the route to lower garbage. Compare both choices with the visible queue instead of treating four-line clears as the only useful outcome.
Is the coach always optimal?
No. It searches a limited set of continuations using the visible pieces. Use its suggestion to investigate a position; a lower-piece solution can still exist.
