STACKING LAB · PRACTICE GUIDE

T-spin practice

A T-spin setup is more than a T-shaped gap. You need room to rotate the T piece into it, enough support to clear the intended rows, and a stack you can keep playing afterward. Stacking Lab gives you time to examine those decisions.

Choose a structure to practise

The Stacking tab has separate coaches for DT, TST, TS, STSD and Fractal, alongside ST and LST stacking. Each coach prioritizes its own structure. Start with one mode so you can recognise what it is building before switching between patterns.

The link on this page opens DT stacking. It is ongoing stacking practice; the DT Cannon opener is a separate opening-sequence exercise.

A short T-spin drill

  1. Read the board before placing. Find a possible T slot and trace how the T piece would reach it. Check both the cavity and the space above it.
  2. Check the visible queue and hold. Decide which pieces can build the supports. Avoid committing to a roof that seals the slot before the T can enter.
  3. Compare with the coach. Inspect the suggested placement, or watch a few coach moves. Ask which future placement each move preserves.
  4. Review the result. After the clear, inspect the remaining surface. Use undo and move history to examine where a hole or awkward overhang began.

Keep gravity off while learning the shape. Add speed only when you can explain why the setup works.

When the pattern does not fit

Do not judge every ordinary clear as a missed T-spin. Sometimes clearing down and reopening the surface is the useful move. If the planned T cannot reach its slot, compare a recovery placement with forcing another layer onto the stack.

The coach is a practice aid with a limited search budget. It uses the visible pieces and hold, and can miss a better continuation. A suggestion is something to study, not proof of the strongest competitive move.

Questions

Does every T piece need to become a T-spin?

No. Preserving an accessible board matters too. Watch whether a setup remains reachable and whether its continuation leaves manageable holes.

Can I practise a particular pattern?

Yes. Open Stacking and choose the relevant mode. TST, STSD and Fractal each have a separate coach.
