Tetris opener practice

An opener is a planned sequence from an empty board. Stacking Lab’s Openers section lets you practise the placements and piece-order decisions behind a pattern, with a dedicated coach and a move limit for each exercise.

Available openers

The selector includes TKI, DT Cannon, Perfect Clear Opener (PCO), Hachispin, MKO, C-Spin, BT Cannon, Mr. T-Spin’s STD, Albatross, SDPC, Stickspin, MS2, Gamushiro and New DT Cannon.

Choose one and follow its current goal. The suggested placements account for the active piece, hold and the visible sequence. Multi-stage openers show the stage you are working on, so you can connect the initial setup with its continuation.

Learn the choices, not just the picture

  1. Inspect the goal before starting. Identify the spaces and supporting pieces the pattern needs. Check the move limit and current stage.
  2. Read the piece order. Before placing, consider whether hold changes which part of the pattern you can build safely.
  3. Compare one move at a time. Study the suggested placement, then try to explain why it leaves room for the next pieces.
  4. Retry and vary the sequence. Retry to revisit a difficult decision. Use a new sequence to check whether you recognise the pattern when the piece order changes.

Once you can complete the exercise, practise its follow-up in a stacking mode. An opener is only the start of a game; the remaining board still needs a workable continuation.

Alternative solutions

Some openers include supported alternative setups. The default route stays preferred. When the available sequence cannot use it and a supported alternative works, the coach can suggest that route under the same opener menu item.

The goal displays (Alternative Solution) when an alternative is selected. This is not a promise to cover every published variation of every opener. If no supported route works from the current position, retry or inspect the moves that led there.

Questions

Is this the same as stacking practice?

No. Openers train defined starting sequences within their move limits. Stacking modes train ongoing patterns with their own independent coaches. For example, DT stacking and DT Cannon are separate exercises.

Can I keep practising Perfect Clears after the opener?

Use Perfect Clear Freeplay for an ongoing session. Its coach seeks repeated PCs instead of following one fixed opening exercise.
